Zdzisław Alfred Broncel15 years ago, 7th of December 1998 at the age of 89 – Zdzisław Alfred Broncel died in London, a critic of literature and theatre, a poet, a playwright (never published), a publicist and a radio broadcaster; before WWII a permanent associate of the “Prosto z Mostu” nationalist weekly as well as “Wieczór Warszawski” and „Goniec Warszawski”, a head of the department of literature at the “Chronicles of Poland and the World” („Kroniki Polski i Świata”); 1939-41 a director (manager) of the on Pohulanca Theatre in Vilnius (Wilno), arrested in June of 1941 by the NKVD and sent down to a Gulag, regained freedom in January 1942; a soldier of the Polish Armed Forces in the East (3rd Carpathian Rifle Brigade); 1945-47 editor of the „W drodze” (“En Route”) paper; from 1947 lived in London and for two decades (1952-71) was a broadcaster of the Polish Section of the BBC ; laureate of the Polish Writers’ Abroad Association prize (1954).
