Ronald Reagan
10 years ago, on June 5th 2004 at the age of 93, Ronald Wilson Reagan died in Bel Air (Los Angeles, CA), a conservative politician; for many years an actor; initially politically close to the Democrats in the 50’s joined the Republican Party, becoming one of the pillars of the anti-communist movement; during the 1967-1975 period a two-time governor of the state of California; lost the presidential primaries in 1968 and 1976, but in 1980, he won (even more convincingly in 1984), becoming the 40th (a two term) President of the United States from 1981 to 1989; his internal politics pursued a policy of fighting crime and defending the moral values and in the economy – championing tax cuts (but without cuts to spending, which increased public debt), de-monopolisation and support for business (Reaganomics), which in total has increased the pace of economic development of the country to levels unseen before in its history, in foreign policy – skilfully combining elements of moral rhetoric ("evil empire") with realism – leading to the collapse of the communist Soviet empire; awarded (posthumously) the Order of the White Eagle.
