Frédéric Mistral
100 years ago, on March 25th 1914 at the age of 83 (Joseph- Étienne) Frédéric Mistral (Prov. Frederi Mistrau) died in Maillane (Provence – Cote d'Azur),a poet, philologist and lexicographer, restorer of literature written in Occitan (occitan, lenga d'Oc) which is related to the Catalan language, with which it makes the occitano-romance diasystem, the founder and leader of the literary Provençal regionalist group Félibre (from Félibrige, which is the standard classical poetry created in d'Oc) referring to the tradition of the medieval troubadours, artistic and ideological (in terms of regionalism and decentralisation) champion of Charles Maurras;a winner (jointly with the Spanish dramatist José Echegaray) of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904.
