5 years ago, on February 7th 2009 , at the age of 86 Francisco Vidal Canals died in Barcelona, a philosopher, theologian ,a church historian and a political thinker , Head of the Department of Philosophy at the Institute of Jaime Balmes ( 1956-1966 ) and Chair of Metaphysics ( Ontology and theodicy ) at Barcelona University ( 1967-1987 ) , an associate of the "Cristiandad " review, co-creator of the Barcelona School of Thomistic , a member of the Pontifical Academy of Rome , the initiator of the International Society of St. Thomas Aquinas , Doctor hc Abat Oliba CEU in Barcelona , the Pontifical and Royal University of St . Thomas Aquinas in Manila and FASTA in Mar de Plata , on 26th of September 2002 appointed by the blessed Pope John Paul II a Knight Commander of the Order of St . Gregory the Great , one of the greatest Thomists of the twentieth century, a historian of the development of Catholic orthodoxy during the first seven councils and of Catholic mysticism ; made an original contribution to the theology of the Kingdom of God ( Reino de Dios ) and St . Joseph the Patriarch of the People of God ; a traditionalist , bringing to carlism tons of strong defense of the Catalan tradition against the absolutist centralism and liberalism , but also against secular and separatist nationalism ( "catalonism"); editor-in-chief of the 61 Spanish professors protest against demo-liberal Constitution of 1978 , as not recognising the authority of God in the political order and leading to the new secular totalitarianism , as a result of recognising the state as the sole Demiurge , which could regulate the sovereign issues of marriage, family , education, and economics, under the will of the majority party, even communist.
