40 years ago on April 9th 1974, at the age of 85 years Luís Cabral de Oliveira de Moncada died in Coimbra, a lawyer, historian and a philosopher of law and State, since 1924 a Professor, the Head of the Department of History of Law (1932-1940) a Vice-Rector at the University of Coimbra, 1934-1936 a judge of the International Court of Arbitration in the League of Nations; from 1932 to 1935 a member of the National- Syndicalist Movement (MNS), eventually reconciled with the ‘salazarians’ and became the main theorist of the authoritarian jurisprudence of the New State (Estado Novo).
