Meinecke60 years ago , on February 6th 1954 , at the age of 91 Friedrich Meinecke died in Berlin (West ), a historian of Ideas , a theorist of historiography and of policies; since 1893 an editor of the " Historische Zeitschrift ", a university professor in Strasbourg , Freiburg and (from 1914 ) Berlin , a member of the Bavarian and the Prussian Academy of Sciences and the author of the fundamental works on the national state, the idea of raison d'etat and historicism , also the distinction between " cultural nations " and " peoples of state ", regarded as the creator of the concept of " history of ideas " ; a monarchist ( Protestant ) and a nationalist conservative (anti-Polish for example ) , founder ( 1917) of the People's Union for Freedom and Fatherland , after the fall of the empire became a " Republican of reason" ( Vernunftsrepublikaner ) and founded (1923 ) the German Democratic Party (DDP ) during Nazism resigned from the public life, after World War II an author of a settlement publication " German catastrophe ", a co-organiser and the first rector of the Free University of Berlin.
