St. Józef Sebastian Pelczar

Pelczar90 years ago on March 28th 1924, at the age of 82 St. Józef Sebastian Pelczar died in Przemysl, a Roman Catholic theologian, apologist and historian, he graduated from a Collegium Romanum (Gregorian University) and the Institute of St. Apollinaris (Lateran University), Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Theology of the Jagiellonian University (and a rector in 1882-1883), president of the People's Education Society, founder of the Congregation of the Servants (Handmaids) of the Sacred Heart of Jesus- Cracow, an auxiliary bishop from 1899, and since 1900 an Ordinary in the diocese of Przemysl; an expert in the history of the French Revolution and Freemasonry and a promoter of the social teaching of Pope Leo XIII; beatified in 1991 and canonised in 2003 by Pope John Paul II.
