Pius_XI75 years ago , on February 10th 1939 , at the age of 81 the Holy Father Pope Pius XI ( by birth: Ambrogio Damiano Achille Ratti ) died at the Vatican, a priest since 1879 , a triple doctor of the canon law ,theology, and philosophy , since 1914 the Prefect of the Vatican Library and the apostolic Prefect , from April 25th 1918 an apostolic visitor in Poland and Lithuania , and from 6th of June 1919 an apostolic nuncio in Poland , while the titular Archbishop of Nafpaktos ( and as one of the two , in addition to the representative of Turkey, members of the diplomatic corps that remained in Warsaw during the battle of Warsaw in August 1920, he became friends with Chief of State Joseph Pilsudski , but came into conflict with the Bishop of Cracow prince Adam Sapieha which became the reason for his dismissal ) 15th of June 1921 – Archbishop of Milan, elevated to cardinal by Pope Benedict XV on 19 VII 1921 , from 6th of February 1922; a 259 Pope of the Holy Roman Church , urged the rulers and peoples of the world to recognise the Social Reign of Christ the King , setting a date of His feast ( Quas primas , December 11, 1925) , but wanted to narrow down the socially- political activity of Catholics wanted to the directly controlled by the Church ( inaugurated on 23rd of December 1922) Catholic Action disavowing autonomous and non-clerical initatives ( condemnation of Action Française , the tension between Catholic Action and carlism in Spain ) , and to renew al of the class – profession system as a remedy for errors of liberalism and the threat of socialism ( Quadragesimo anno , 15 May 1931) ; condemned false, irenicist ecumenism ( Mortalium Animos , 6 and 1928) , thrice (1926 , 1932, 1937), the persecution of the Church in Mexico , granting ( Iniquis afflictisque , 18 November 1926) Mexican Catholics authorisation for active resistance , but three years later, forcing cristeros to lay down their arms ; condemned the oppression of the Church in the Republic of Spain ( Dilectissima nobis , 3 June 1933) and accepted nationally -military uprising of 1936 as having the character of the Crusades ; condemned the fascist statolatry (Non abbiamo bisogno , June 29, 1931) , Nazi racism ( Mit brennender Sorge , 14 March 1937) and godless communism ( Divini Redemptoris , March 19, 1937) , gave the title of Doctor of the Church to saints : Albert the Great , Peter Canisius , Robert Bellarmin and John of the Cross , among others canonised Therese of Lisieux, St. John Bosco , Bishop John Fisher , Thomas More ( the patron saint of politicians ) , Peter Canisius , Albert the Great and Andrew Bobola.
