Fdez de la Mora90 years ago, April 30th 1924 Gonzalo Fernández de la Mora y Mon was born in Barcelona, an essayist, diplomat and a politician; he was the son of an officer – monarchist (loyal to Alfons XII), earned doctorates in law and philosophy; a monarchist journalist for the ABC daily and an associate of the "neo-traditionalist" Arbor paper and Rialp publishings; since 1959 a member of the private council of the pretender to the throne, Count of Barcelona (Juan de Borbón); Delegate of Spain to UNESCO and the European Council for Cultural Cooperation (1958-1969); he took part in the preparation of the Ley de Orgánica Constitution of the Francoist state (1967); since 1970 the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Public Works from 1970 to 1974, since 1974 – director of the School of Diplomacy; in 1975 he founded (as an association) the Spanish National Union ( Unión Nacional Española ) – a year later transformed into a party – unifying the "orthodox" Francoists’ (and some Carlists), seeking to defend the achievements of the national state- Catholic and opposed to transición to a demo-liberalism and "partiocracy”, as well as the paper of the conservative right -the Razón Española review, which he was an editor of until his death (UNE broke up in 1979), a member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Rights; he died in 2002.
